Film and Theater, Oh My!

Welcome to my second semester, loyal readers!

I know it has been a while since I last posted on here. I have been a very busy college student.

I was the stagehand for the college's children's show, The Jack Tales and was part of the Advertising Committee for the college's Nerd Prom. Unfortunately, I fell ill during the weekend of the performances and the prom, so I went straight home after the performances and didn't go to the prom.

In Dramatic Writing II, I'm writing the first act of a movie script, and it's coming along nicely. I am also working on a three to five minute entry for the college's film competition! I wrote the script for it tonight, and filming starts tomorrow.

In addition to that, I will also be the stagehand for the next play performed by the theater troupe on campus: Karima's City. It is a play that was originally written in Arabic by an Egyptian American, and we are performing an English translation of it. It's about an Islamic woman who is put into an insane asylum, and the play delves into the reasons why. I will also be helping out with the West African cultural club's performance of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Isn't Enuf. Currently, I am under the impression I'll be doing lighting or sound or both, but the woman who contacted me about helping with the play hasn't clarified things with me yet.

Anime Club is also getting ready to host its anime film festival. I'm really looking forward to it. While the movies are playing, we'll be selling amagurumi dolls, rice balls, and ramen. The funds will go to the club's two huge events on campus: Wizard Ball and Nerd Prom.

Also, I am debating whether or not I should see what my Christmas story will look like as a stage play and if that will be a better format for the story to be told, with the same themes and message I want to get across. The plot for the Nutcracker story is still in its development stages, and its development is coming along nicely. I also have an idea for a series of First Chapter books.

You'll probably hear back from me after the Film Competition prizes are awarded! I'll show you my film after that!
